We are excited to announce that we are starting a Middle School Youth Ministry program for grades 6-8 here at St. Paul the Apostle Parish. The program is called EDGE and is part of Life Teen International, the largest Catholic Youth Ministry program in the country. EDGE gives middle school youth the chance to connect with the teachings of the Church on a personal level that applies to exactly where they are at in their lives.
Your son/daughter might be in religious education in 6th grade or in Confirmation in 7th or 8th grade right now and that is excellent. Our Confirmation program does a great job of preparing our young people for the Sacrament of Confirmation. However, religious education and sacrament preparation differs from middle school youth ministry. EDGE will focus more on the spiritual lives of the youth and help them to live out their Catholic faith every single day. It coincides well with our Confirmation program and gives the youth a chance to apply what they learn at Confirmation to their daily lives.
EDGE nights begin with a fun game or activity that always relates to the topic at hand. Then there is an engaging teaching given that applies to the life of a middle school student. Following the teaching, we break up into small groups and the youth have a chance to share how they feel about the subject and ask questions about things that they might not understand. Finally, we close each EDGE night praying in a different way so that the youth can find a prayer form that they like best.
EDGE nights will run throughout the year from 6:30-8:00 PM in the lower level of the gathering space. Here are the dates for EDGE this year: October 30th, November 20th, December 18th, January 22nd, February 19th, March 12th, and April 16th. Please mark your calendars!
